DAY TWO …. YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT?

2 When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, ‘Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.’ 3 So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

I suspect when God told Hosea to marry a promiscuous women Hosea must have said something like “You want me to do what!???”

Marrying Gomer didn’t make sense. It broke every norm of Hosea’s culture, especially for a prophet. Holy men couldn’t be seen with promiscuous women never mind marry them.

I think often when God tells us to do something, we’re uncomfortable with, we tend to make all sorts of excuses for why we can’t obey Him. We focus on all the potential problems that obeying God will get us into. We baulk at the cost. We shy away from obedience because we know what people will say.

Yet God used Hosea’s obedience and the heartache it caused him show Israel how much he loved them and how He had better plans for them as people. Despite their rebellion He would rescue them and restore them. Hosea changed the spiritual direction of a nation and we still benefit from his obedience as God’s people today as we read the book of Hosea.

We just never know the impact that our obedience will have on other people or our own lives. How God will use our obedience impact the lives of other people and even whole nations.

Here is the thought I want to leave you with.

God will at times ask you to obey Him and do the inconceivable so that He can do the incredible through you
