Outline of a sermon for Clermiston Nazarene
Hebrews 1:1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
We Can Know God Through Jesus….. …. “in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being”
Jesus is God’s final word about himself. He is God authorised audio visual aid to understanding himself. Jesus reveals everything we need to know about God because he is 100% God and 100% human. It’s not just that Christ is God but that God is Christlike. Through Jesus we can know God.
We Can Come To God Through Jesus …”he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven”
Jesus finally and decisively deals with the barrier between us and God, our sin. Jesus life, death and resurrection does for us what we couldn’t do for ourselves, deals with our sin. Jesus sacrificial death purifies us so we can experience forgiveness and come to God.
Conclusion
Theologians says Jesus provides revelation (he reveals God to us) and redemption (he brings us to God) Jesus deals with barriers that have kept us from God, our ignorance and our sin. This means that through Jesus God has done everything that needs to be done for us to enter into a personal relationship with him.
Some Of Us …. Need to accept the implications of what Jesus has done for us and enter into a personal relationship with God.
Some Of Us …. Need to live out the implications of Jesus had for us, grow in our relationship with God.
